About Birding in West Java:

About Birding at Ciwidey Kawah Putih  :

Kawah Putih Ciwidey is a stunning volcanic crater situated approximately 50 km south of Bandung, West Java, Indonesia. As part of Mount Patuha, an andesitic stratovolcano, it has remained relatively dormant since its last significant eruption around the year 1600. Officially opened to visitors in 1987, this breathtaking crater is located at an altitude of 2,430 meters (7,970 ft), resulting in cooler temperatures of around 10 °C (50 °F) compared to the humid lowlands below. The lake within the crater is known for its highly acidic waters, with a pH ranging from 0.5 to 1.3, causing it to change colors between bluish, whitish-green, or brown based on sulfur concentrations and other factors. Surrounding rocks and sand are also notably bleached white due to the acidic environment. Since 2021, Kawah Putih has gained popularity as a destination for birdwatching, attracting nature enthusiasts.
